Which Texas Holdem poker game should you play?

Your personality has a huge impact on which form of Texas Holdem you should play. To better highlight why this is then you only have to look at the individual games to show what I am talking about here. Limit holdem is well know to exhibit very high levels of variance and the outdraws and losing sessions will be numerous. The facts about limit holdem are plain to see and the structured betting means that more players see flops turns and rivers than in other forms of poker like no-limit.

If you suffer from impulsive behaviour at the poker table then no-limit holdem may not be for you. Likewise if you have a problem with not believing players when they bet or raise. These personal characteristics carry on from your personal life and this just goes to show that poker and your non poker life are more connected than what you think. You really need to tap in to your inner personality to highlight which form of poker you may be suited to.

If you absolutely hate having the best hand overtaken then playing limit holdem is probably not for you. Also if you play flops and post flop badly then maybe limit holdem once again is not the game for you. Limit holdem is all about seeing flops, turns, rivers and showdowns and the structured nature of the betting means that your opponents are frequently getting good pot odds to see you all the way to the river.

This means that your post flop play had better be pretty sound. But let us switch back to no-limit holdem for a second. Once again this highlights certain flaws and one such flaw is in having an over aggressive game. This may seem like a good trait to have in some games and I have often heard it said that it is better to have a game that is too aggressive than one that is not aggressive enough. This statement is wrong for one very simple reason.

If you are too passive in poker then you can still be a winner if your opponents are too aggressive and your calls can end up being great calls and you can win some big pots and pick off some huge bluffs playing this way. However as we all know, passive play is generally losing play in most poker games but it can be the right and proper tactic in certain conditions. Likewise with over aggressive play, if your opponents are very tight then you can almost raise with any two cards in these games and be successful.

It is clear then that both of these two extremes are wrong but both can be winning strategies in the right situation. But in no-limit Texas Holdem then over aggressive play that is not skilled play can be fateful against skilled opponents because you will simply be placing more money on the table against opponents with greater skill.
